World Largest Coral Colony Found

Only a few weeks ago a giant coral colony in the Soloman Islands gained quick notoriety as the largest coral colony known to mankind. The amazing Pavona Clavus colony could not hold on to that title for a very long time. Just recently an even larger Coral colony structure had been identified not far from us in Nusa Pendi here off the beautiful Island of Bali, Indonesia. This approximately 4000 Square meters (about one acre or roughly 43000 feet) measuring colony of Galaxea astreata finds ideal conditions to thrive in the Lombok Straight where the nutrient rich flow of the Arctic Ocean meets the Indian Ocean. These conditions allow the coral to grow to unusual large size and helps to produce larvae, that is seeding new coral in the whole region. The colony lies in the middle of an already protected area which is great, as it is expected to draw a lot of divers and marine enthusiast. It can act as an ambassador for marine conservation and help to fund conservation efforts by raising additions funding from tourist dollars spent in the region. The Science coordinator of Ocean Gardener Research Manikmayang explained in an interview with the Indonesian National News that more research and testing has to be done to verify the new world record. We at the Bali Coral Farm know that our waters produce the best and healthiest coral in the world. Our lagoons provide the ideal conditions to create the worlds most stunning reefs. In our mind there is not even a competition. Maybe this might be our local pride talking. For us that is a given fact that does not require any further proof.
